Chaweng Beach

Chaweng Beach is situated on the east coast of Samui which is the most popular side of the island. Chaweng beach is the main beach on Koh Samui and the tourist facilities and infrastructure is the most developed of all the Koh Samui tourist areas. Chaweng beach is very popular with especially the younger tourist crowd that goes on holiday to Samui.

Chaweng Nightlife

Chaweng nightlife is the premiere reason why so many of the younger tourists love staying at Chaweng beach during their holiday on the tropical Thai island. Several famous Samui nightlife landmark venues such as the Green Mango Disco and the Reggae bar are all situated in Chaweng. 

The center of Chaweng nightlife is around the notorious Green Mango Square which is names after the famous Chaweng disco Green Mango that is located at that Chaweng square.

This Samui nightlife hot spot is the largest and most popular nightlife location of all of Koh Samui. Visitors can find a number of Chaweng discos, Samui go-go bars as well as Chaweng beer bars at the Green Mango Square.

Chaweng Beach

Many families also prefer staying at Chaweng beach over other Samui beaches. Many Chaweng hotels offer great value for money and there are so many activities and attractions for visitors of all ages.

The northern section of the seven km long Chaweng beach is considerably more quiet and peaceful then the main central section of the popular Samui beach.

Beach vendors can be somewhat annoying as they can be pushy at times however simply ignore then and they will try elsewhere. As soon as you show any form of interest or once you start talking to them then it can be tough to get rid of them.

This problem is especially the case in the busier center of Chaweng beach where you can find many massage ladies and vendors selling everything from cold beers to wooden elephants. Tourists can also find a number of great water sport opportunities at Chaweng beach. You can rent a catamaran at one of the Chaweng beach water sports businesses for around 20 USD per hour. For those of you that like to rent windsurf equipment then that is also possible for around 8 USD per hour.

Prices are negotiable at these places so do not be shy to negotiate when renting any equipment or buying any goods in Chaweng or anywhere else in Samui. Sea kayaks can be rented from various rental spots along the beach of Chaweng.

The cost of renting a kayak from one of the Chaweng beach water sports rental companies is around 5 dollars per hour.

Chaweng Beach Tailors

Chaweng beach of course also has its fair share of Samui tailor shops. Please be careful when purchasing any tailor made clothing items. We do strongly advice not to simply accept the cheapest offer from one of the Chaweng beach tailors shops as quality does have its price.

Some of the Samui tailors at Chaweng beach offer very cheap prices but the quality of the item you will get will be very poor. Please always keep enough time for several fittings at the Chaweng beach tailors shop that you picked as you need to be sure that it fits perfectly. If you wait until the last moment then there might not be enough time to get the clothes altered accordingly.

Chaweng Activities in Thailand

Chaweng activities which could be of interest to you are the lovely foot massages that you can get in Chaweng. Foot massages are among the most popular Chaweng activities and they are very popular among foreign tourists. You can find a massage place in Chaweng beach on nearly every street corner.

The price for a foot massage or even regular Thai massages is very inexpensive. Please do try to visit one of the Chaweng massage parlours if you have the time. It is therefore well worth shopping around Chaweng beach for specials and discounts.

Koh Samui Transportation - Chaweng Beach

The cheapest and best method of transport around Chaweng beach is by taking a Songtaew. This popular Samui transportation is a red pick up truck which has the back covered against the rain. It is a very cheap way to get around Chaweng beach and even around Samui.

Please do note that these Songtaews do stop every time a person wants to get on or off. The great thing is that you can meet normal Thai folks who are heading to work or the market. The cost of using this form of transportation in Chaweng beach is very cheap and the price does vary slightly depending on where you want to go and what time of day it is. Normally the cost will around half a dollar.

The beach of Chaweng consists of beautiful pearl white sand and the water of the sea is very clean and clear. It is worth noting that near the reef of Chaweng beach there are a couple of tiny islands which can be easily visited. The larger of the two Islands located just of the reefs of Chaweng beach can be visited by those of you that can manage to swim across or by kayak.
