Lamai Beach - Samui
Lamai beach is the second most popular Koh Samui beach resort area. Lamai beach is located on the east coast of Samui and is roughly ten kilometres south of Chaweng beach. Lamai beach is becoming more and more popular with tourists as the nightlife and facilities and attractions at this Samui beach have become better and more options are available for tourists.
Lamai Beach
The beach at Lamai is often regarded as somewhat not as nice as the beach at Chaweng due to the sand of Lamai beach being slightly rougher. However one must not forget that Lamai beach makes up for this more then enough with its many beautiful coconut trees that line this Samui beach.
Another great benefit of Lamai beach is its quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Chaweng beach is noisy and very busy and many tourists simply prefer a more peac eful experience which is why they opt for Lamai beach.
The water at Lamai beach is very clean however there can be some small waves at this Samui beach during certain parts of the year. Lamai beach does not have the protection of a reef of its shores which often leads to the water being somewhat less calm then one would find at Chaweng beach.
Lamai Nightlife
Lamai nightlife is fun and very entertaining. Although the Lamai nightlife can not really be compared to the Chaweng nightlife, there are plenty of great Samui nightlife venues available in Lamai beach. The Bauhaus disco is very famous and can easily match the quality of the Green Mango disco in Chaweng.
Lamai is smaller and therefore there are less nightlife options however most tourists staying in Lamai beach find it sufficient. For those that would like to visit some additional Samui nightlife spots, Chaweng is located only a 10 minute drive away so that would be no problem.
The beach road of Lamai beach is where you will find most local businesses which include a variety of restaurants, bars, travel agents, Samui car rental desks, tailor shops and more. Visitors will even find at the Lamai beach road a school where tourists can learn Thai boxing.
Lamai Attractions
Lamai attractions include the famous and popular tourist attractions such as the Lamai Beach open air market as well as the historic Samui Buddhist monastery. Visitors to the Lamai monastery can visit the local museum which is located at the Buddhist landmark. It is really well worth visiting the monastery as its one of the best Lamai attractions.
The Grandfather and Grandmother rocks of Lamai beach are well known throughout Thailand and are definitely well worth a visit if you do go to Lamai beach. Along the beach of Lamai, visitors can also go to the Wat Silangu temple.
The Wat Silangu temple at Lamai beach is one of only two golden pagodas that Samui has to offer.
